Create your own geometric wall art

From simple shapes to the most complex of designs, 2020 is undoubtedly the year of the geometric print. We have everything you need to recreate this stunning look for yourself…Ready to get started?

1 – Pick a colour scheme

From a cool and minimalistic grey geometric wallpaper to a bright, multi-coloured look. The first big decision when it comes to creating a geometric wall design is to consider your colours! We’ve put together a guide to some of our favourite colour combinations, which is your favourite?

2 – Map out your pattern

Once you’ve decided a colour scheme the next job is to map out your pattern using masking tape. Make sure your wall is prepped to paint (i.e. that every nook and hole is filled and the surface is sugar scrubbed) and have fun playing with a pattern! For maximum impact go for triangles of all different sizes and adding some inside others.

While mapping out the pattern of a piece of paper can help, have fun and don’t be afraid to add and remove the masking tape, standing back and picturing the final effect before you finalise your design.

Once it’s complete make sure there are no gaps between your tape that would allow colours to run into one another.

3 – Get painting

We suggest going for your brightest colour first and allowing it to dry before then incorporating your supporting colours. Use a brush to carefully fill in the edges of your shape before completing the middle with a roller for a smooth overall finish.

4 – Peel to reveal

Once the paint is dry it’s time to unveil your masterpiece! Whether you’ve taken inspiration from blue geometric wallpaper, pink geometric wallpaper or even gone for vintage-inspired colours and elaborate patterns, peeling is a crucial stage.

Firstly ensure the paint is fully dry in all areas to prevent any leakage in the pattern. Next, peel away the tape at 45-degree angle for the smoothest finish and admire your handiwork! Don’t forget to share your finished creations with us on our social channels, just tag @ilovewallpaper.co.uk.

Love the idea of the geometric look but not sure you can pull-off the DIY? Don’t worry we’ve got a stunning range of geometric wallpapers in all colours and designs to make your walls pop!
