Five Ways to Transform Your Guest Bedroom in Time for Christmas

Now that we know we’re still able to celebrate Christmas with family and friends this year, it’s time to spruce up your spare bedroom and get it guest-ready.

Many of us have found some new uses for our spare bedroom over the past nine months, with it morphing into an office space, home gym or playroom.

But with the Christmas holidays creeping closer and the anticipation of spending it with family and friends starting to build, could your spare bedroom do with a facelift?

There might only be a few weeks to go, but we have a few guest bedroom ideas that will transform your spare room into a homely haven for your guests, just in time for Christmas.

1. Declutter and free up some storage space

To give your guests a space that feels like their own escape, freeing up surfaces and storage in your spare bedroom is top of the transformation list.

Make sure you clear enough surface space for your guests to lay out their essentials and set down their cuppa.

And if (like most of us) your clothes are spilling into the spare bedroom, it’s time to sacrifice some storage space. Free up room in the wardrobe and empty a drawer or two so that your guests can unpack and settle in without fear of tripping over their suitcase.

2. Revamp the room with feature wallpaper

Adding feature wallpaper to one wall is a quick and affordable way to revamp your guest bedroom without having to work your magic on all four walls.

Here, our Silver Liquid Marble wallpaper adds a luxurious and contemporary focal point to this guest bedroom. With the other walls plain and pared-down, this bedroom wallpaper serves as an instant wow-factor that your guests will gush over.

Opting for a grey feature wallpaper provides a neutral base, meaning you can easily update accent colours and keep your guest bedroom fresh throughout the year.

3. Make it homely and inviting with soft furnishings

With the weather getting colder, accessorising your spare bedroom with soft furnishings will give it a homely and inviting look that your guests will love this Christmas.

Think thick warm rugs, chunky knit throws and plush cushions that your guests can cosy up against with a book before bed.

Here, our vintage chic London Damask Wallpaper is the backdrop to this cool and calming escape – with the white fleece throw and sea of scatter cushions adding warmth and comfort.

4. Go all out with a hint of hotel hospitality

Channel your inner hostess with some thoughtful touches in the guest bedroom for a hint of hotel hospitality.

Leave fresh fluffy towels on the bed for your guests arriving, and arrange a basket of bathroom spares on the dresser for those forgetful family members.

You could even give guests some glasses and a jug of water, so they don’t have to take a trip to the kitchen in the middle of the night.

Don’t forget the soft glow of a bedside lamp and a few flickering candles to add warmth to the room on those winter evenings. And include practicalities like a mirror and a wastepaper bin for all those Christmas chocolate wrappers.

Here, our Emerald Milan Metallic Wallpaper has been accentuated beautifully with splashes of five-star elegance – from the statement gold planter to the layers of green and gold cushions, topped with a welcoming tray of tea and biscuits.

5. Add some festive touches

Help your guests get in the festive spirit by adding some temporary Christmas touches to your spare bedroom decor. It will make it a home away from home for the holidays.

For something subtle, add a cinnamon-scented diffuser and some small decorative pieces.

Or if you have space, nothing is stopping you from adding a Christmas tree that ties in with your colour scheme.

Here, our Rose Gold Zara Shimmer Metallic Wallpaper creates a chic and sophisticated finish in this guest bedroom. The cosy cushions, layered throws, tasteful ornaments and colour-coordinated tree make it a tranquil Christmas retreat.

Turning your spare bedroom around in time for Christmas doesn’t have to be a daunting task with these guest bedroom ideas.
