From inspirational quotes to abstract art and treasured family moments, artwork is one accessory guaranteed to transform any house into a home. If you’re anything like us, you’ll have taken your love of artwork to the next stage with a gallery or photo wall – a collection of prints that each have their own meaning and look equally as amazing together as they do individually.
A quick scour of Instagram shows what a popular trend this is, but trying to coordinate pictures with each other can be difficult enough; throw in a stylish wallpaper and it can be a bigger headache than anybody needs. Luckily we’re here to help, with tips and advice to create a beautifully bespoke photo wall with some of our favourite wallpaper prints.
Mind the gap
Use photo frames in complementary shades, or mounts in contrasting colours to your wallpaper to create a visual gap between paper and picture. Alternatively, selecting artwork that leaves a noticeable gap between the image and the edge of the canvas is another simple way to achieve this look, and it works beautifully with our array of hallway wallpaper options!
Top Tip: Go bold with black mounts against dark patterns, paired with dark frames, or keep it classic with solid black or white options against metallic frames in varying sizes, all finished against a stunning marble wallpaper backdrop.
Fake it to make it
From exposed brick to concrete, recreate the look of your favourite gallery or studio to proudly display your artwork. Creating a neutral canvas means you allow the artwork to take centre-stage, embrace this with different frame styles, colours and sizes.
Top Tip: Lay out all the artwork on the back of any spare roll and play around with placement until you get a look you love. Mark the place then tape this to the wall and use it as a handy guide for placing your nails screws etc, then simply remove again and enjoy the perfect placement!
Beyond the wall
Add artwork adjacent to your feature wall, in matching shades, to create a coherent look. This is a great solution for people who don’t want to ruin the aesthetics of their feature wall, but do want to bring their whole room together in one cohesive look. Want to get more of a tied together look? Why not try incorporating samples of your chosen wallpaper into your gallery wall to create some stylish symmetry.
Top Tip: Go big, with frames over A3 size, or multiple images, to avoid photos feeling like an afterthought. This is particularly important when it comes to artwork on large adjacent or plain walls, where smaller photos can quickly look lost.
